I plan to breast-feed. Can I visit CFC during the day to feed my baby?
CFC is very accommodating to breast-feeding mothers. You may send breast milk for our staff to bottle feed your baby, or you may visit the center during the day to breastfeed.
I plan to use cloth diapers on my baby. Does CFC allow this?
We do allow the use of cloth diapers.
My child has food allergies – how does CFC handle children with these special dietary requirements?
CFC is a nut-free school and we will work with you to ensure your child’s safety during all meals served at school. Just let our staff know about any allergies.
My child is fearful of change. How does CFC work with the children to transition them to new classrooms?
Any time a child transitions to a new class, they will spend partial days there in the weeks leading up to the move. The teachers get to know the children in every class, so the transitions usually go very smoothly, even for the most fearful children.
What safety measures ensure my child’s safety during the day at CFC?
CFC employs a finger-print sign-in system, where a person cannot unlock the door to the center unless they use the system or are escorted by an employee. CFC will not release a child to an unauthorized person. Our outside play area is completely fenced in and our rooms comply with the strict safety standards set by the Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Public Welfare.
How do you ensure the health and safety of my child when interacting with Grandbear volunteers?
Of course the children’s safety and health comes first at CFC. Just like our teachers, volunteer Grandbears have completed full background checks and full health appraisals with Tuberculosis tests. They are required to renew their health appraisals every two years. And our Grandbears are so dedicated to our children that they will cancel their activities if they are sick, even with something as minor as a cold.
What meals and snacks are provided?
CFC’s tuition includes a hot breakfast, a morning snack, an afternoon snack and all beverages. Parents are asked to pack lunch, which may be hot or cold.
How involved are parents at CFC?
Parents are very involved in all major decisions made at CFC, which guarantees that decisions are made with the best interests of the children in mind. CFC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of parents and other volunteers.
Do you currently offer after-school or summer care?
At this time, we are unable to offer after-school care or summer programs. We hope to be able to offer these programs in the future, specifically for the West Shore School District. If you would like to be placed on a notification list to learn when these programs become available, please email our directors.
What do the children do all day?
CFC is committed to providing a fun, safe learning environment for its children. Each class has a curriculum that focuses on teaching age-appropriate skills mixed with fun. For a detailed look at a typical day in each class, click here. In addition, children ages two and up have designated days to bring books and show & tell items. In the summers, weekly “splash days” allow the children to play in the water outside. Pajama days, mis-matched clothing days, and other theme days are also special treats for the children to look forward to.
Do you offer drop-in care for part time children?
While our part-time schedule is usually Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday, we can often accommodate parents needing care on a non-scheduled day. Parents may request this care and permission will be granted if space is available in the child’s class.
Are part-time children invited to special events held on non-scheduled day?
Absolutely! Parents are encouraged to bring their children to special events, like the Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Program, Easter Egg Hunt, school photos, etc., even if the event falls on a day the children are not scheduled to attend.
Does CFC participate in the Keystone Stars program?
Yes, CFC has currently achieved 2 Stars and the staff is working on its third star.
What annual fees do you charge?
We have no annual fees. Once you pay your registration fee to enroll your child, you do not have to pay it again. We do not charge re-enrollment fees or activities fees.
